I was shocked to read in the Newspapers the statement of Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, meaning that the various scams involving Billions of Dollars (1 US dollar=45 Indian rupees) by the ministers, officials and private companies, now rocking the nation, are inevitable in a coalition government - by what he calls the Coalition Dharma (path). He concedes that he is not able to do what he wants to do.
That is the worst to come from the PM of the Greatest Democracy in the world.
It is too bad that we have such government which cannot govern.
Instead, I would rathar, not have such popular government.
I wish the country goes to Presidents Rule, pending another election.
Dr.Singh is a top class economist, But he is a poor administrator-politician. Instead of pleading helplessness and being a party to his own ministers robbing the nation, he should prevent and expose such ministers, sack them or atleast threaten them to mend their ways; telling that he will otherwise call for dissolution of the government and call for fresh elections which every MP, MLA, minister is dead scared of.
AB Vajpayee also headed a coalition government of 26 parties.
He effectively used this threat of dissolution to control and contain and discipline the ministers belonging to various parties. Vajpayee is a top class politician.
Coalition Dharma does not mean that the Government should allow the coalition partners to armtwist the Prime Minister to keep silent while robbing and stealing and stashing billions into Swiss Bank accounts.
On the other hand, he should find ways of controlling the erring ministers, companies.
Afterall he is the one fully and finally responsible for the country.
